The 2017 Digital Assembly will be hosted by DG Connect, of the European Commission, and the forthcoming Maltese Presidency, of the Council of the European Union.
2017 will be a key year to take stock of progress made with the implementation of the Digital Single Market (DSM) Strategy as part of the mid-term review, planned for May. It is also the year during which the Commission will start preparing for the next Multi-annual Financial Framework and the digital role within it. 2017 will be when many of the new measures such as the end of roaming are due to come into force, allowing citizens and businesses to reap tangible benefits from the EU's digital single market. In short, 2017 will mark an important step towards a European Digital Union.
We are witnessing a major transformation as our economies and societies are rapidly becoming digital. These changes are global, affect everyone, and bring benefits and opportunities to citizens and companies. They also pose challenges in Europe as well as in other parts of the world.
The 2017 Digital Assembly is an opportunity for stakeholders from inside and outside the EU to debate, take stock and look ahead at how Europe, and its partners around the world, are preparing for this digital transformation.
It will also be an opportunity to have a dialogue on the benefits of the Digital Union for citizens with a special focus on our younger generations.
Join us for this open and frank debate!
When and where?
The 2017 Assembly will be held in the outstanding setting of the Mediterranean Conference Centre/MCC in the beautiful historic centre of Valletta, Malta on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th June.
The Digital Assembly starts at noon on 15th June (registrations open at 11am). After a networking lunch, it will kick off with a high-level opening ceremony and an outstanding international panel discussion.
On Friday 16th June we will split up into four thematic working sessions on key priorities. The afternoon plenary session will be devoted to listening and discussing the expectations and ideas for the digital economy and society of our younger generations. The Assembly will conclude with a high-level closing ceremony around 18h00.
A detailed programme will soon be published.
However, we advise you to register early since attendance will be based on the principle of "first come, first served". It is advisable to make timely arrangements for flights and hotel. June is a busy touristic period in Valletta so flights and hotels could be in short supply.
